A leading Newton Abbot-based foodservice wholesaler has marked its 20th year in business with the continued growth of its annual trade show.
MJ Baker Foodservice, which is a member of buying and marketing group Fairway Foodservice, achieved a 10 per cent increase in attendance at its flagship event, which is the biggest industry convention of its kind in the West Country.
152 suppliers exhibited at the event, held at Exeter’s Westpoint Arena, to display new products and discuss industry trends and best practices.
Jo Baker, managing director at MJ Baker, said: “It was fantastic to see lots of familiar faces, many of whom have been with us for the entire journey.
“Our trade show has a reputation for being about more than just amazing deals, which helps us to increase attendance year-on-year.
“It’s the one day of the year when our customers can meet face to face with suppliers and discuss trends, opportunities, and challenges, for example, salt reduction and new soft drinks in light of the sugar tax.
“In addition, establishments such as care homes can talk about menu planning and ensuring it meets the correct nutritional guidelines. Another hot topic is food allergens, and food data provider Erudus was on hand to talk directly to caterers about the software and how it can help them on a day-to-day basis.
“It’s this added value that our customers value the most.”
The show also served as a fitting way for MJ Baker to say ‘thank you’ to its customers.
Jo added: “There were glasses of prosecco for guests on arrival, a complimentary bar, and a food court which helped create a buzzing 20th birthday celebration atmosphere.
“It was six months in the making thanks to the hard work of our team, which I know will do another fantastic job when we start preparations for next year’s event.”
